Students at Bangor Career Academy experience alternative education at it’s best! The State of Michigan defines alternative education as a separate program that runs within a K-12 public school system with the purpose of serving and providing youth with choices and options when the traditional school setting doesn’t meet their needs.

In general, alternative programs have three guidelines:

Students have options for school attendance on campus
The program addresses unmet local needs
Demographics of the student population in the program are representative of the racial and socio-economic mix of the community

Students have an expansive list of electives to choose from. Bangor Career Academy uses the Edmentum Courseware software for 6-12th grade students and the SchoolsPLP platform for K-5th grade students which encompasses Lincoln Learning, Bright Thinker and eDynamic Learning curriculum options. Lower elementary level students are provided with a workbook option to help minimize the amount of time spent in front of a screen.
